Fly Fishing – Río Maullín & Lagos
Overview
Highlights
Itinerary
Day 1: Early Morning Pickup & River Briefing
Your guide picks you up in Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt at 7:30am. En route to the river, he covers casting technique, local entomology (what the fish are eating), and reading the water. Beginners get a 20-minute casting clinic before entering the river.
Day 2: Morning Session – Maullín Upper Reaches
Wade into the upper stretches of Río Maullín — clear, cold, and loaded with fish. Dry fly and nymph fishing in pools and riffles surrounded by native arrayán and coigüe forest. Your guide is always at your side.
Day 3: Streamside Lunch
Mid-day break on the riverbank. Your guide lights the parrilla (Chilean BBQ): chorizo, seasonal vegetables, bread, and a glass of Chilean red wine. Rest, compare notes, and enjoy the Patagonian silence.
Day 4: Afternoon Session – Lower Pools & Return
Move downstream to the deeper pools where trophy browns hold in shade. Fish until 5pm, then transfer back to Puerto Varas. Your Vertic digital album with the day's best photos is shared with you that evening.
