Overview

Some of the wildest estancia land in Chilean Patagonia can only be reached by water. From Puerto Natales we cross the Última Esperanza fjord by boat to a working family estancia, where more than a century of gaucho life still sets the rhythm of the day: horses, dogs, fire and weather. There is no phone signal and no internet. Arriving is already part of the experience.

You choose how to spend the day. Riders follow the old gaucho trail that once linked the estancia with Puerto Natales, through lenga and canelo forest and across untouched peatland, to a waterfall with views of the Moore range. First-time riders take a calm coastal ride between forest and sea. If you'd rather stay on foot, an easy trail along the river leads to the same waterfall, with lenses to discover the mosses, lichens and fungi of the forest floor.

Every option ends the same way: around a campfire, gaucho style, sharing a picnic of local products and beef from cattle that roam free on the estancia, with the family that lives there telling the stories of the place.

  • Ride with Patagonian gauchos, or walk to a forest waterfall
  • Campfire picnic with beef from the estancia's free-roaming cattle
  • A family estancia with no signal: a real day off the grid
